Dental fillings are a simple and effective way to repair damaged teeth, restore function, and prevent further decay. At Aura Dental, we use modern, tooth-coloured materials to create fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, keeping your smile healthy and beautiful.
What are dental fillings?
A dental filling is a treatment used to repair a tooth that has been damaged by decay or minor fractures. The damaged portion of the tooth is removed, and the area is cleaned before a filling material is used to restore its shape, function, and strength.
When would you need a dental filling?
Regular check-ups are essential, as small issues can be caught early and treated before they become more serious. You might need a dental filling if you’re experiencing:

Cavities
Caused by tooth decay that creates holes or damage in the tooth.

Chips or cracks
Minor damage to the enamel that needs to be repaired.

Worn teeth
Resulting from grinding or acidic wear that requires restoration.
What is the dental filling process?

Preparation
The affected tooth is numbed with local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort. The decayed or damaged area is carefully removed, leaving a clean, healthy surface for the filling.

Filling placement
A tooth-coloured material, such as composite resin, is applied in layers, shaped to match your tooth’s natural structure. Each layer is hardened with a curing light to ensure durability.

Polishing
The filling is smoothed and polished to ensure it blends seamlessly with your natural tooth and feels comfortable when you bite or chew.
Types of dental fillings we offer
At Aura Dental, we only use safe, modern materials for dental fillings:
-
Composite resin filling
These tooth-coloured fillings blend naturally with your teeth and are ideal for visible areas of your smile. This is the most common filling we use.
-
Ceramic filling
Made from high-quality porcelain, ceramic fillings are durable and resistant to stains, providing a long-lasting and natural-looking solution.
Composite resin fillings are often the best choice for most patients due to their natural appearance and durability. Ceramic fillings are another excellent option for larger restorations.
Composite fillings can last 5–10 years with proper care, while ceramic fillings may last 10–15 years or more.
No, fillings are not painful. Local anaesthesia ensures the procedure is comfortable, and you might feel only mild sensitivity afterward.
You can eat as soon as the anaesthesia wears off, usually within 1–2 hours. However, avoid sticky or hard foods for the first 24 hours.
If the decay has reached the tooth’s pulp or caused significant damage, it may be too late for a filling. In such cases, a root canal or extraction may be necessary.
